“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.” Anais Nin
My Approach
Have you ever noticed how our most vivid memories often have a strong emotional component attached to them? Memories recalled may make us smile fondly, quietly chuckle, or roar with laughter in shared recognition with others. Why is that? Could it be that the initial feelings experienced in connection with the event were so strong that they left an indelible impression on us; that impression being in the form of a memory?
Essential lessons about love, safety, trust, relationships, and our own self- worth are learned and embedded deep within when we experience and re-experience powerful emotions in our most significant relationships. Sometimes, however, these lessons have the unfortunate effect of dampening or crushing our spirits, obscuring our view of ourselves and the world around us. This, in turn, makes it difficult for us to see and hold onto who we are; to know what makes us unique and special.
It is my belief that change, healing, and growth occur when one is given the opportunity for new emotional experiences to occur while in relationship with a caring and compassionate other. These emotional experiences reach in and touch not just our heads (as with an intellectual understanding), but our hearts as well.
If you think that we might be a good fit, please feel free to call (512) 339-1694, text, or email me for more information or to schedule a therapy appointment.
When you are in therapy with me I invite you to:
- Share with me what’s in your heart
- Together move through the sometimes murky darkness of fear, sadness, shame, anger or the unknown
- Recognize the humanity, awe, and beauty within you
- Create loving, mutually fulfilling relationships
- Embrace and celebrate life
I have found Accelerated Experiential- Dynamic Psychotherapy, AEDP, to be a good fit with my own personal philosophy and style. In AEDP, the therapist strives to create a relationship based on safety, caring, trust, and mutual respect. This allows for exploration, curiosity, emotional expression, clarity, healing, and growth to occur.
My own style is warm and engaging. I am genuine, affirming, nurturing, and offer a calm and soothing presence. Sometimes I will pick up on something (a thought, feeling, perception, or behavior, for example) that I think may be interfering with your goals, but of which you may not be fully aware. At those times, I will share my perspective with you so that we might explore and better understand what is happening and why.
I will not leave you alone to deal with your uncomfortable and/or painful feelings, such as sadness, anger, shame, fear or joy.
I am compassionate and not afraid of big, intense feelings, nor the closeness that often develops as a result of feelings shared on such a deeply personal level. I have a sincere appreciation and respect for the courage that it takes to honestly look at yourself and be vulnerable with another. I am privileged to share in and be a part of your healing and your growth.
If I sound like someone with whom you might like to work, please feel free to give me a call (512) 339-1694, text, or email me to discuss your situation or to set up a therapy appointment.
